You can use this as such between your Living room and your garden shed but thats a bit booring.
To get it to work you would need an FSG.

Greetings Helge
Hello Helge.

Just working between 2 machines is indeed boring, but fun for a demo setup.
Anyway, is the FSG also needed if the machine is connected to the i-telex system?
If not, I do not need to hunt for one, else I need to.

Regards,

Ed

In that case this machine (when it is properly functioning) can be left 'on' 24/7
Exactly, but this switch is only needed for direct line point to point connections.

In the Telex network it is done by the Telex control unit (German Fernschaltgerät).
Also in this case, the machine is under power only when it is really in operation, otherwise
the mains are totally switched off from the machine.
The TW39 Telex uses a quite simple buth sophisticated signalling protocol.
In idle operation there is only 5mA idle current and it increases to 40mA for
printing operation.

I-Telex in it's TW39 config requires FSGs. So you need one. There are hacks to get around that but I would not recomend that
with this machine.

But for a Demo Setup with just 2 Machines you would only need the 40mA line supply. Nice for showing the machine.

I see, well, I'll put an ad in the 'Suche' section then, as I don't have one.

If you ever want to join i-Telex I will have matching Siemens TW39 control units available. ;)

Matching Siemens ones are: Type 'N' without local operation feature, Type "NL" with local operation feature.
Typ "N" were used together with machines that had no paper tape attachments. If the machine
has got also paper punch and reader a type "NL" is recommended.

I indeed want to joint the i-Telex system, that's why I got the machine in the first place :)
And there are not many Dutch members at the moment.....

I'll contact you seperately for the i-Telex device later on.

I would recommend NL's if your machine incoroprates a tape puncher. You are then able to punch tape locally.
And you can play with the machine in any desired way.

Not absolutely necessary.
If you like to join the i-telex network we can provide a special version of the interface which doesn’t need a fsg.
If you get one, you can include it with a small software update.

I can not recommend that if control units are available. The solution without control unit always
has got 40mA on the line instead of 5mA of the original version WITH control unit.

I use this version for my USTTY set-up and the current limiting resistor is ALWAYS quite hot
and heats up my basement workshop a little :) ...unlike
the normal TW39 version where the resisitor only gets a little bit hotter when the machine is online.

Hi me too. It will work but it is not the best of all.
If there were no FSG available it might be ok, but Hennig sourcing the fsgs thi si the better way of doing it.
