FS200 Mobile Applications - Telex Link?

Beitrag: # 40359Beitrag Zaphod »

As always, apologies for the post in English. I have an ex Katastrophenschutz VW T2 which has a pair of Telefunken Fug7Bs in it. It used to have a generator on the pull out tray and still has a telescopic Hirschmann mast and crook antenna and various bits of Bund equipment, field telephones, various cable drums and a map table in its command centre area. I still need a cruck antenna and generator but that's another story.
Anyway, i know that this bulli was later fitted with a fax machine, (faxgerat is handwritten on the power distribution board) and it made me wonder if they ever had a Telex before that. Maybe they were too late for such things.
That then got me thinking about how the 24Vdc military version of the TeKaDe was used. How did it connect into the Telex system when remote from a wired connection? I presume it must be over a radio link?
Are there any local experts on mobile TeKaDe use? And can the dc power supplies be easily retrofitted into an FS200?
Also is there a way to manually read FS200 punched tape? Is this a standard form of encoding or are there different formats ?

Best Regards

John

There was NEVER Telex used in BOS service,
except Telefunken Telestar 121 operating 2400 baud AFSK
point to point links on 4m VHF. It was simplex operation.
We used them in our county BOS service . But I would say it was the only county civil defense in whole Germany that used it.

So, any real Telex machine would be incorrect to use in your TEL van.

The FS200 was ONLY used by the Bundeswehr in radio shelter cabins and at fixed installations.

Thanks Henning, that's very interesting. I just Googled the Telestar 121, looks like a great little machine! Sadly i don't think i could find a use for just one but a 4m link and another would be fun!

They are VERY rare. I would love to own one.
At.least one of the two used in our county's BOS service is in hands of a friend who is also member here on i-Telex (Till, DK2BT).
