Hello - New to Fernschreiber

Hello,

I am Sean, and have just purchased an FS220 teleprinter, in hope that i can get one to work as part of my amateur radio station (M1ECY)

I am also very interested in the I Telex system, after seeing it in action at Ham Radio 2017.

I am sure I will have many questions, but unfortunately my German is very poor.

Many Thanks
Sean

Hello Sean,
we welcome you in our group of enthusiasts.
I'm Fred, i have (and still i am) develloped this system, from hardware to software.
So if you have any questions regarding functions and possibilities, don't hesitate to ask me. Ether here in the forum or by private mail.

Hi Sean,
Welcome to the i-Telex Group
German is not a must, almost all of us can speak and/or write English so just put your questions here into the forum, you will get an answer in no time.

Hi Sean,

welcome here. Have fun here. Questions or other participation in English is completely OK.
Are you planning to do RTTY? Unfortunately the info about the FS2x0 teleprinters is
mostly german, but if questions arise - just ask.
By the way - where are you from?

Hi, Yes, at some time I plan to use FS200 for RTTY - of course it is easy to use PC and soundcard, but why choose easy :)

I am located just outside of the town of Hitchin, approximately 45 km North of London.

I have been kept very busy on the website of BW Schmitti, I have the FS220, which is printing on paper, and is punching tape, it can also read the tape too. I have just received the ADo-8 interface card, to replace the V10 card - I think Current loop makes more sense than some sort of RS232.

I also purchased "Prufgerat Fernschreibergerat" which to my poor German translates to "Teleprinter Test Equipment"

All seems very clever, but some sort of English instruction would be much easier :)

In the short term I want to make the teleprinter work with my EKD300 receiver, I think I will also build the I-Telex system for use here as well - there is not so much RTTY on the air these days.

Hi,

OK, I hope you are OK with the Services BW-Schmitti delivered.

The "Prüfgerät Fernschreiber" is really some testing equpiment für teleprinters. If it's the german "green" Version it's mainly
for testing FSGs (Fernschaltgeräte = Remote Contron Boxes). Actually you do not need it at the moment.
It does provide line current (or a V.10 line connection) and some basic testing.
Is it this device: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=146 ?

You should keep the V.10 Interface-Card, it may come in handy later.

Hi Helge,

Yes, it is one of those devices - as of this evening, it has proven that the alternative input/output card is working (well, it is showing that there is a change of state in the current loop as the machine sends.

I think I now need to try to get the FS to work with some real signals - it is much fun making tapes to send to the printer, but is a great waste of hard to get paper!

So, the V10 card has use? this is interesting - I sort of understand the current loop idea, but the "RS232" sort of stuff seems a bit limited unless some sort of interface is made to convert the data to a usable form - perhaps a little Arduino project for a PC based tester....

"a little Arduino project for a PC based tester...."

as would be an encypted Teletype :-)

Paper is avalable at the moment, viewtopic.php?f=10&t=609
Those are old ones made in GDR, but they work fine in the FS220. Printing Paper is also available.

Good luck with RTTY. An Interface for I-Telex ("big" one or small arduino-based one) is also an option.

Hello and welcome to the forums,

there just one thing I'd like you to do; if you need help and support with certain things, please create seperate threads with a meaningful topic
instead of cramming everything into this one. This makes information easily cachable by the Google search engine and other people with the
same question or issue can find help quickly.

Thanks and have fun
