This is my second post on this forum and I should say a little about myself.
I live in the South Island of New Zealand and I am retired and spending time at our aviation museum. One day a young man visited our museum on his motorcycle, he said he was from Germany and told me about this forum. I think his name is Robi?
He was interested to see our aeradio exhibition hut with all the old equipment including a Teletype machine. I had worked with those machines as an operator for several years and eventually moved on to developing software for the international civil aviation air traffic services network.
I am sorry I had no experience with the TELEX network but of course I knew about it. I also worked with Morse code.
Best regards
John Hill

Hello John,
welcome to the forum.
Robbi (who lives only 6 km away from me) told me about his nice visit at the Aviation Museum in New Zealand. He liked it very much.
I myself worked for the German air traffic control service from 03/1974 to 11/2022, including as a teletype operator at the ICAO intern. telecommunication center Frankfurt/Main (EDDDYF) and later at the TTY station of the air ATC head office (EDDAYF), also located at Frankfurt/M at this time.
During my compulsory military service as an operator in the military NOTAM office in Frankfurt (EDDZYO).
It was a very enjoyable and interesting time, even if it was sometimes very stressful.
Best regards
Franz

Hello Franz, I have been to Germany several times but only to Frankfurt Main airport when travelling to and from Prag LKPR. I wrote the software for the AFTN operators' terminals there, we called that Message Mate. Also ATIS and Volmet systems. I doubt many if any of those systems are still in operation but they were installed in several countries.
I see that Message Mate still has a page online! https://www.cnd.co.nz/mm_2000.htm

Hi John,
Welcome to i-Telex... a Pom to a Kiwi! Hopefully you'll read all about the delights of noise-making telecomms machines, develop an interest, and join our band of restorers and operators. I volunteer at in the Connected Earth part of Amberley Museum here in the UK and, having my own collection of working teleprinters that use i-Telex, I'm in the process of getting the museum's collection of teleprinters on-line too, so that our visitors can see and use them.
Maybe you, or another interested person could do th esame at your aviation museum? There are plenty of people on here who can halp and advise.
regards
David

Hi David
We have just one keyboard printer in our aeradio shack exhibit. It is I believe in fully complete and maybe operational condition but I will save the excitement of getting that working for another day.

OK, John... hopefully your machine will be either a Siemens or a Creed as those are the makes that are most represented by collectors and users of i-Telex. Keep us posted if you decide to power the machine up! If it's a machine made by Teletype in the USA, there may be people here who have those, but there's certainly a big group in the USA, who could be asked to help, and there are a few collectors on i-Telex in Australia, where Teletype machines were used a lot.

David
