It would be very interesting if the Pi-Telex could talk to the i-Telex directly it would of course need the bus protocol.
As it turns out, I wouldn't know where to begin. The classic i-Telex's design is very different from piTelex's. I²C is a protocol that's used very widely and, in principle, you can transfer anything. (As a somewhat extreme example -- both your car and CERN's LHC use I²C, but would you want to interface them?
)
i-Telex uses the bus to address the different hardware modules and manage connections between them. In piTelex, I²C isn't used. It only has software modules (with very different scopes) that are permanently connected to each other by one global "character" software channel. So a direct connection between piTelex and i-Telex would have to emulate an i-Telex card (Which one, Ethernet? Line interface? Or a new type
) on one side and integrate into piTelex's central loop on the other. At present, I wouldn't know what advantage this might yield. The easiest mode of communication between both is the i-Telex binary protocol. Using local database entries on both sides, this can be done completely offline.
But with enough time and some Python and C knowledge, anyone can have a shot, as piTelex and i-Telex (mostly) are free software, as in freedom. I'd be happy to consult for the piTelex side as far as my time permits.
Best regards
Björn
