That is no bulb for light, i think.
I think it is a "Eisen-Wasserstoff-Widerstand" iron-hydrogen resistor. A resistor for regulation of current.
In radio technology, they were of somewhat greater importance as heating circuit control tubes. They were also used in de-excitation devices for synchronous machines and large chokes.

The Shematic is impossible to found. It is problematic. I have measure the resistance. The first is 0,34kOhm and and the second 0.49kOhm. But without the initial value, i think there is not a lot of sense, no?

The large "Lamp" inside the device on the lower chassis is a Barreter, or as WolfHenk says, current limiting device.

These are usually reliable, and should not be in question here.

The resistance readings you have are plausible, so I think we can ignore these for now.

We need to be certain that the device is sending the correct signalling state to the machine - for this we need to see the "Local Loop" Line Current - there should be a convenient tag strip inside the device where the Teleprinter signal cable connects - there should be some connections for the local loop there.

It may be that the circuit has to be traced out manually - this is going to be a challenge.

We could attack this from the machine end - if we can find the Receive Electromagnet, and then follow the mechanical link to the machine drive clutch, we can then manually operate this linkage to see if the machine can be made to sit quietly - it could just be that the clutch or linkage are stuck with old hard lubricants.

I’m sorry but for me it is too complicated…! I have 0 notion of electric device…! I try to found the Electromagnet. But I am not sure of anything. Maybe the more simple to me is to found a other model, and in working condition. Because I’m totally lost…! With all this electronic things, the problem can be everywhere…

It’s a pitty because it’s a nice machine..!

Hi Theo,

I think that your second picture is the receive electromagnet.

No reason to give in just yet, yes, the machine is complicated, but we can normally work a lot out without documentation.

So, what we really need is a proper idea of what is happening with the control unit, is it sending the correct polarity to the machine to keep the machine silent.

There are lots of contact on many relays and switches that could be dirty, there could be fuses that are open, could even be some other components that are not working, all of this can be fixed.

So, we need to decide where best to start - on the UK machines, where control units are almost not available, i try moving the arm that connects the receive electromagnet to the clutch - if the mechanics are working, then the machine should stop racing - perhaps try this test with the machine signal cable disconnected, and only the power for the motor connected.

Don't worry, we will help you get this fine machine working, it just takes some tenacity, and lots of learning by mistakes.

Sadly, you are a long way from the UK, and I think some time spent actually in front of the machine with some help would see it working.

What do you think? I have access to Teams and I think Zoom, would this be of interest to you after Christmas?
