Hi everyone.
We are a small cultural club dedicated to information technology. We think that i-telex is an excellent initiative.
For this we have installed wintlx on our server in "receive on" mode.
If any of you need to test your teleprinter remotely, the server is available.
wintlx is set up like this:
address: venerandi.it
port: 134
peertype: baud hostname.
The identifier set is: 115115 pamafa s (wintlx).
We hope one day to be able to get a teleprinter.
Greetings.
PS: sorry for my english.

I will check everything more carefully.
My name is Ivano Venerandi.
I have been passionate about communications since I was a child (fidonet, irc, bbs, etc.).
Now I have become interested in teleprinters because it was stimulated by one of my sons, who runs a small mountain post office.

I also think it should just be a testing tool.DF3OE hat geschrieben: ↑Sa 24. Aug 2024, 18:56 Genau das ist das Problem bei Wintelex und seinen Nutzern.....

Regarding the participant server, I don't know what it is and therefore I can't offer my opinion.
As for the idea of the creators and developers of i-telex, it is right to respect the ideal that drove them, however no inventor can reasonably believe that some other individual can make a different use of his invention.

Hi Ivano,
Your interest in I-Telex is commendable - this is of course primarily a hardware driven platform, as such the preferred route into the network is by collecting a machine - Perhaps something like an Olivetti T2, or perhaps one of the TE models - I have some experience with the TE431 - an interesting machine.
Then a choice - A full I-Telex system from Henning, or build yourself if you have the skills and can follow the clues to gain all the parts, or Pi-Telex, which is more suited to users with good IT skills and a decent understanding of Linux.
Both of these systems need to be added to the subscriber server - this is a centralised server much like a main Telex exchange - this allows incoming calls from other subscribers to be routed to the correct connections.
I have little experience of WinTelex, other than using it as a tool for testing my machines when other services fail.
I wish you good luck with your efforts - I really do encourage you to find a machine, this is certainly the best way to experience 5 bit communication.
Regards
Sean

Hello Ivano,
welcome here to the forum! I'm happy that you are interested in i-Telex. It was already said, that Wintlx is a test-tool and does not replace a real teleprinter. Without a registered real machine you would not be able to receive messages.
I'm sure you will find a machine at an online auction or a flea market. If you would like to do a trip to Trentino you can get a machine from Johannes. He owns also a nice homepage.

I saw the link, there are some very nice teleprinters and also in good condition.WolfgangH hat geschrieben: ↑So 25. Aug 2024, 09:53 Hello Ivano,

The list problem is easily overcome. Today I did some promising tests. When I have time to dedicate and if everything goes as I hope, the system will allow you to send a simple email to a given address and wintlx will call the requesting teleprinter, establishing the connection (mail is downloaded every 5 seconds at the moment).
The software limitation of the i-telex card (i.e. not being able to call a host directly) is a limitation that wintlx does not have.
It's still worth a try, it will be useful if I can get a teleprinter.
Thank you for all.
Ivano.
