Hello i-Telexers,
Two days before Christmas Day, with the excellent support of Sean Williams, my i-Telex system finally burst into life. We'd been suffering from a strange problem on my LAN, but Sean and Henning sorted out a work-around for me, and hurrah… calls can now be both sent AND received!
I'm UK based, and I'm a volunteer in the Connected Earth Hall at the Amberley Working Museum , where a year or so ago my interest in teleprinters was re-awakened from my first exposure to one back in the early 1970s. I decided to start a collection of my own and I now have some Creed 7 machines, a Creed 444, a Siemens T1000 (the UK Navy version), a BT Whisper Telex, and a Siemens T100z. At present, the T100 is the only one that's working and connected to i-Telex.
I'm pleased to be increasing the quantity of UK i-Telexers by one as there are not very many of us! In time, I'll see it I can get two of the machines at Amberley onto i-Telex, so that I can demonstrate Telex to our visitors.
When my T100 arrived, it had a blank never-used answer-back drum, so I was able to choose my own number. Looking back through my old work business cards I decided that happy times working at Heathrow Airport in the 1970s-80s called for me to go for 934892 LHR G, and whilst it's my 24hr machine, I won't be standing over it all day and night! I'd be happy to hear from anybody, though - please make some noise in my workshop!
regards (wishing you a Happy and Noisy New Year)
David
