Hello, my name is Russ from West Chester near Philadelphia in Pennsylvania USA

In 1969, after receiving my Electrical Engineering Degree, I worked as Resident Engineer of the main Telex exchange in Philadelphia for the Western Union Telegraph Company. While most of the Telex exchange equipment in the USA was manufactured by Siemens, this exchange, the CSR-4, was manufactured by ITT in Milan, Tennessee USA.

Other assignments followed and I eventually was responsible for all of the Telex exchanges in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. While the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Newark, New Jersey Telex exchanges were manufactured by ITT, all of the remaining exchanges were manufactured by Siemens.

In Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh has a Siemens TW-39 Telex Exchange (replaced in 1974 with an ITT CSR-4) and the following cities had a Siemens TWK-4 Telex Exchange: Allentown, Erie, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Norristown, Reading, Scranton, State College, Williamsport and York.

In New Jersey, the following cities had a Siemens TWK-4 Telex Exchange: Asbury Park, Boundbrook, Hackensack, Morristown, New Brunswick, Passaic, Peterson, and Trenton.

In Delaware, the city of Wilmington had a Siemens TWK-4 Telex Exchange.

My i-Telex machine, a Teletype Model 28 ASR, came from my days at Western Union. Almost all of the customer Telex machines in the USA were Teletype Model 32 ASRs. However, the Western Union business offices almost exclusively used the Siemens T100.

The use of a Teletype Model 28 ASR in Telex service was unusual and I am happy that this rare machine has been preserved to one again serve as a working Telex machine.

The Teletype Model 28 ASR is 40 inches high, 36 inches wide and 18.5 inches deep, excluding the keyboard. The keyboard extends 4.5 inches. The Teletype Model 28 ASR weighs 260 pounds.
